The Stop Killer Robots campaign is an international coalition of NGOs working for new international law to ensure meaningful human control over the use of force through a pre-emptive ban on fully autonomous weapon systems (killer robots) – weapon systems designed to select targets and attack independently, without any meaningful level of human control.
The MP who doubles as Majority Chief Whip and is known for his commitment to human welfare and peaceful coexistence assures the campaign team of adding his voice to this campaign and relaying the campaign message to the Speaker of Parliament for review.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Ayo Ayoola Amale, the President of WILPF Ghana and the National Coordinator of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots, maintained that it is unacceptable and morally distasteful to allow machines with the power and discretion to take lives without human control to come to be. These weapons systems raise a host of concerns because they would select and engage targets without such control.
This Campaign to Stop Killer Robot seeks to achieve its goals through an International Treaty as well as through national laws and other measures. IHRRI is therefore calling on Ghana Parliament for a legally binding instrument including prohibitions and regulations on the development, production, and use of autonomous weapons systems in order to preserve meaningful human control over the use of force.
