The aim of the club is to bring Young People together and make the world listen to them as they add their voices to the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots.

Speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of Ghana’s Campaign to Stop Killer Robot Dr Ayo Ayoola Amale emphasized the need for inclusiveness that is devoid of gender and racial discrimination, she encouraged participants to take advantage of social media and create more awareness about the campaign.

In a Presentation on “The Role of Universities in the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots”, John Pius, IHRRI Campaign Manager highlighted the central role universities play in stopping the production of killer robots and how university departments are likely to be at the forefront of research into robotic weaponry and artificial intelligence.

Appreciating how universities help to shape societies by training future generations, passing on knowledge, and driving innovation. John spoke on the need for universities to safeguard their research and innovations to prevent them from being used in inhumane technology such as lethal autonomous weapons.

Mr Emmanuel Arthur, Director of IHRRI went on to introduce and explain the Goals of a University Campaign to Stop Killer Robots to the students:

  1. Encourage universities not to contribute to the development of killer robots.
  2. Get universities to establish a clear policy stating that they will not contribute to the development or production of lethal autonomous weapons systems and include implementation measures for the policy.
  3. Universities must ensure staff and researchers are fully aware of the precise use and implications of the technology they are producing
  4. Get the university, departments, and individual academics to sign the ‘Pledge against Lethal Autonomous Weapons on www.stopkillerrobots.org
